Pope Asks for Forgiveness From Canada’s Indigenous People

During Pope Francis’ trip to Canada, he apologized to Indigenous communities for the Catholic Church’s role in running residential schools that separated children from their parents, inflicted sexual and physical abuse and forced assimilation, for more than a century.
